It’s been a long season of Fortnite, with Chapter 7 Season 1: Pacific Break running from November 29 last year to March 19 this year after it was extended by over two weeks. As we get closer to its end, Fortnite just revealed a glimpse of what’s to come in Season 2: Showdown, and some fan favorite characters are back in a big way.
The reveal trailer for Showdown features the return of the Ice King, as we get a glimpse at those frozen in his palace, including Marvel’s Captain America, ending with a shot of The Foundation who is also frozen. The trailer ends with a parody of the Avengers: Doomsday slogan and countdown clock, emphasising “The Foundation and the Ice King will return in Fortnite: Showdown”.
Fans were suspicious of the Ice King’s absence from the most recent season of the throwback mode Fortnite OG, but now it’s clear that Epic was hiding him to build anticipation for a greater return in the main game mode. The title Showdown and the logo being slashed in two suggests a theme of conflict in the upcoming season. Perhaps we’ll be able to choose sides or factions like in other former seasons, between The Seven and the Ice King’s army.
If you’re unfamiliar, The Seven are a Fortnite-original group of heroes that are tasked with breaking the time loop that the island is locked in. They made their grand return earlier this season through in-game events, along with the reveal of a major celebrity taking up the voice role of The Visitor. The Ice King is also an iconic villain from all the way back in Chapter 1!
