The iconic hero shooter Overwatch had a rebrand recently, and it’s safe to say it has been a huge success. From rising player counts to loads of new gameplay additions and heroes, there’s probably never been a better time since its launch to be an Overwatch fan. Thankfully, that audience is about to get even larger, as the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game releases tomorrow.
To coincide with the start of Season 2: Summit on April 14, Overwatch will be making the leap to Nintendo’s next generation with a dedicated Switch 2 edition that hugely improves the experience. Visuals are enhanced to be “crisper” and “cleaner”, with a bumped frame rate cap of 60 FPS in both docked and handheld modes. Audio quality is also improved, so those Junkrat tires racing your way will be even more terrifying.

Overwatch is currently available on Switch, but it’s a significantly lesser experience than other consoles or even PC. It aims for 30 FPS, but the base Switch could struggle to meet that number during the more intense fights. Whilst on Switch 2 the experience became more stable, we were sorely needing a dedicated Switch 2 upgrade. Thankfully, it seems Blizzard has heard our wishes.
The Switch 2 will see the debut of the latest Overwatch hero Sierra, as she’s set to release on the same day as the console update tomorrow. Sierra combines mobility with fast-paced shooter action, using her unique spiralling assault rifle that’s even capable of tracking honing shots on enemies.

Along with Sierra’s release, Season 2 comes with an entirely new battle pass, new shop skins, a Diablo collaboration, major hero changes, perk tweaks and much more! Blizzard changed course to restore Overwatch‘s former glory, and it seems to be a successful one so far.
