Blizzard Just Revealed Overwatch Rush, A Mobile Top-Down Hero Shooter

Seemingly out of nowhere, Blizzard just surprise dropped the reveal of Overwatch Rush. This is a new hero shooter that whilst looking very similar to Overwatch is not a port – this version actually sees the action happening from a top-down perspective, designed entirely from the ground up for mobile players. Whilst no release date was provided in their announcement postOverwatch Rush will be tested in “select countries and regions” some time in future.

Alongside the reveal, Blizzard also shared over three minutes of real gameplay footage from the early development build. The preview shows two teams of four players fighting on a map that looks similar to the Busan map in Overwatch, as they fight for control of a point between them. The heroes retain their abilities and ultimates from the original game, but damage appears to be heavily reduced on things like Ultimates and abilities to give players more chance to fight back.

Overwatch Rush gives a new perspective on classic Overwatch heroes.

Whilst Overwatch Rush is set within the Overwatch universe and developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, it is not being worked on by the Overwatch developers in Team 4. The base game will therefore not be losing any momentum following its hugely successful launch of Season 1, whilst Overwatch Rush will be worked on by a side team within a different area of Blizzard.

Blizzard say there’s “a lot of work to do” going forwards with Overwatch Rush, but more development updates will come in future along with testing in select regions before launch, whenever that may be.
