Overwatch Details New Hero Sierra’s Abilities, And She Looks Strong

Yesterday we reported on the animated reveal of Overwatch‘s 51st hero with the new damage-dealer Sierra. We didn’t know exactly what abilities she had just yet, but we managed to make some educated guessed based on what she did in the animated short. Now though, we’ve had a full in-game look at Sierra’s kit, and she looks like a force to be reckoned with.

Firstly, we have her primary weapon: the Helix Rifle. This lethal piece of hardware is an automatic assault rifle, but unlike Soldier-76, Sierra’s shoots in a pink spiralling pattern. The longer you fire the Helix Rifle then the more accurate it becomes, a subversion on the recoil that usually reduces accuracy with sustained fire.

Sierra’s ability to shoot tracking shots will make light work of airborne heroes.

The Tracking Shot ability marks an enemy, and once marked then Sierra’s Helix Rifle shots will automatically arch to collide with the marked player. This should make light work of highly mobile heroes like Genji or Pharah. Speaking of mobility, Sierra’s Anchor Drone launches a pink drone up into the air that can be grabbed onto, allowing her to escape tough fights. As for her final standard ability, it’s Tremor Charge, a grenade that creates a shockwave on impact.

Perhaps the most exciting bit of any Overwatch character’s arsenal is their Ultimate, and it seems like Sierra has a strong one. Her Trailblazer Ultimate ability sees a drone fly forwards, carpet bombing an entire strip in front of the hero. It’s similar to Hazard’s Downpour Ultimate, but instead of trapping players it deals huge damage.

Clear a path with Sierra’s Ultimate ability: Trailblazer.

As a Recon hero, Sierra will be able to reveal enemies through walls when reducing their health below the halfway point. She also has the standard set of four unlockable Perks, which allow you to customize Sierra mid-battle to your preferred play style. These Perks can increase Anchor Drone’s range, tighten Helix Rifle’s bullet spread, heal Sierra when using the Anchor Drone or increase her speed when using the Tracking Shot ability.

Sierra will be playable when Overwatch Season 2: Summit begins on April 14. If you want the latest updates on all things Overwatch and its upcoming mobile spin-off, be sure to check back often right here at GameObserver.
