Nintendo is planning to increase Switch 2 production even though the console will become more expensive later this year. According to a Bloomberg report, the company has asked suppliers to produce around 20 million Switch 2 consoles before March 2027. That number is much higher than Nintendo’s official public forecast of 16.5 million units and shows that the company expects demand to remain very strong.
What makes this even more surprising is that the gaming industry is having a difficult time right now, with hardware costs continuing to rise because AI companies are buying huge amounts of memory for their data centers. Because of this, making consoles has become much more expensive.

Due to this, Nintendo last week announced that it will raise the price of the Switch 2 starting September 1, with the console going from $449.99 to $499.99. So if you are planning to buy one, it may be better to get it now before the higher price takes effect.
Even with the higher price, Nintendo still seems very confident that the Switch 2 will continue selling well, and summer could become a very strong sales period because there is enough stock available and the current price will stay the same until September, meaning the console could likely outperform Nintendo’s official sales expectations once again, just like it has done in the past.
To justify these big production plans, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa promised that the company is preparing a “robust” lineup of games and increasing the overall value of the Switch 2. In addition, the company also announced a special Switch 2 “Choose Your Game” bundle, where you can pick one exclusive game at no extra cost.
