Nintendo Announces Price Increase For Switch Online Subscriptions, Starting July 1 In Japan

Nintendo has announced something fans did not want to hear. The company is raising the price of Nintendo Switch Online in Japan. The news comes just a month after Nintendo increased the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 by $50. For now, the subscription changes only affect Japan, but the possibility of similar price increases in other markets cannot be ruled out.

Whether you still play on Nintendo Switch or have already moved to Nintendo Switch 2, this matters if you use Nintendo Switch Online. The service lets players access online multiplayer in games and enjoy a large collection of classic Nintendo games.

For comparison, Nintendo Switch Online currently costs $3.99, $7.99, and $19.99 in the US for the one-month, three-month, and yearly plans. The Family Plan costs $34.99, while Expansion Pack subscriptions are priced at $49.99 for individuals and $79.99 for families.

As mentioned earlier, Nintendo has not yet announced any price increases for international markets. There is no confirmation that players in the United States, Europe, or other regions will see the same changes. For now, the price increase is only happening in Japan. However, after the recent Switch 2 price increase and now higher Nintendo Switch Online price, it remains to be seen whether similar changes will be introduced in other countries.

In other news, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa promised that the company is preparing a “robust” lineup of games and increasing the overall value of the Switch 2. In addition, the company also announced a special Switch 2 “Choose Your Game” bundle, where you can pick one exclusive game at no extra cost.
