After several days of leaks and rumors, the official confirmation has finally arrived. Recent claims from well-known insiders, including NateTheHate, had already pointed to a new title in the Metro franchise and its April 16 reveal date, and they turned out to be correct!
In an official post on Xbox Wire, 4A Games and Deep Silver have announced Metro 2039, which is set to make its world-premiere debut during a dedicated Xbox First Look broadcast later this week. The upcoming title will serve as the fourth mainline entry in the Metro franchise, following Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, and Metro Exodus.
The game will be fully revealed during Xbox First Look: Metro 2039, a dedicated livestream event being held in partnership with Microsoft, 4A Games, and Deep Silver. The broadcast is scheduled for Thursday April 16, and will begin at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM UK time. Fans will be able to watch the event live through the official Xbox YouTube channel, where the first proper look at the upcoming Metro title is expected to be shown.
At the moment, the developers have not revealed any gameplay details. However, the title itself already gives an early hint about the game’s timeline. Based on the name, the game is expected to take place in 2039, which would place it roughly four years after the events of Metro Exodus. Another key question is whether longtime protagonist Artyom will return for this new chapter, or whether the series will introduce a new protagonist. All of these questions are expected to be answered when the game is officially revealed on April 16.
In other news, Microsoft has also announced that the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 will take place on June 7. The event will be followed immediately by a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct, providing a closer look into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition.
