[Editor’s Note: Fable‘s social media accounts are still using the ‘Autumn 2026’ window publicly, but this does not rule out the possibility of internal delays still.]
It looks like Fable may not make its current release window after all. According to new reports, Microsoft and Playground Games have already internally moved the game’s schedule to avoid launching too close to Grand Theft Auto 6, and that could now push the game into 2027.
While Fable is still officially targeting Autumn 2026, concern is reportedly growing inside Xbox over what happens if the game launches too close to Rockstar’s next major release. With GTA 6 currently expected on November 19, Microsoft appears worried that Fable could be overlooked if it launches too close to GTA 6.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast, insider Jeff Grubb said that the game has already seen an internal shift in timing. He also explained that Microsoft is still trying to keep the game within the current year, but the release of GTA 6 is clearly a major concern, so it’s not guaranteed just yet.

He stated, “I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally. That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of GTA 6. And so if it’s getting delayed beyond the release of GTA 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027.”
The reported delay does not appear to be tied to development problems. Instead, it seems to be more about release strategy. With GTA 6 expected to dominate the gaming industry around that time, Microsoft likely wants to make sure that one of Xbox’s biggest upcoming games does not get overlooked.
If confirmed, this would not be the first delay the RPG has faced, as Xbox previously delayed Fable from 2025 to 2026 to give the developers more time to polish the game. For now, Microsoft has not officially confirmed another delay, but as more information becomes available, we’ll be sure to keep you updated here at GameObserver.
