In The Drift, a new game from Sable co-creator Daniel Fineberg, was one of several world premieres debuting during the 2026 Wholesome Direct broadcast. In The Drift is a deep narrative adventure about fixing the internet – in space!
In In The Drift, you take on the role of Luna, a young woman who has just begun her new job as a space telecoms engineer. Gameplay is split between daytime and evening sections. During the day, you will be tasked with fixing a variety of problems centered around issues such as keeping the Internet up and running for your customers. In the evening, you will be able to relax in your spaceship and bond with the various members of the crew. Each has their own story, and you can get to know them on a deeper level by spending time with them after the workday is done.
The trailer shown off during the Wholesome Direct offered several tantalizing hints about what players can expect in In the Drift. Gameplay segments seem to feature Luna traveling to different locations to solve problems, either on foot or in a unique vehicle – a kind of truck that may be able to travel both on land and through space. There were also a few first looks at some of the spaceship crew members who Luna will get to meet – including an adorable cat.
Currently, no release date has been announced for In the Drift – more information will likely be revealed at a later date. The game is currently planned to release for PC via Steam. The developers, Daniel Fineberg & Friends, describe the game as “a story about trying to be a good person, and finding hope and meaning in a world that feels like it’s drifting apart.”
