Following the Version 1.0 announcement during the PlayStation State of Play event, Moon Studios has confirmed that No Rest for the Wicked will launch on PC and PlayStation 5 in October, but the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions will arrive later. According to the studio, the game still needs more work on Xbox Series S. Because of this, even the Xbox Series X version will launch later than the other platforms.
In a message on Discord, Studio co-founder and game director Thomas Mahler addressed the missing Xbox version. He said, “Series S is making that rough. We’ll ship it after in a good way once it’s optimized like crazy for Switch 2 and Xbox.” According to Mahler, the team wants to make sure the game is well optimized before releasing it, rather than launching it too early and running into problems.

The situation is further complicated by Microsoft’s platform policy, which requires games released on Xbox Series X to also launch on Xbox Series S at the same time. Because of that requirement, Moon Studios cannot simply release the game on Series X first while continuing work on the Series S version. As a result, the additional optimization work required for the Series S is delaying the entire Xbox launch.
Mahler also went as far as saying that the hardware specifications of the Xbox Series S and modern mobile devices “aren’t too far apart at this point.” As Moon Studios is a relatively small independent developer, dedicating significant time and resources to “optimize like crazy” for lower-spec hardware puts extra pressure on the team and slows down the overall release schedule.
For now, players on PC and PS5 will get No Rest for the Wicked Version 1.0 in October, while Xbox and Switch 2 owners will have to wait for the developers to finish optimization work on those platforms.
