Final Fantasy XIV Reveals Evercold Release Date And New Zephyr Job

The last Fan Fest before the Evercold expansion has arrived, and with it, the remaining details the Final Fantasy XIV team can share about this expansion and its future. In Tokyo, Japan, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida took the stage to give more information on everything Evercold, including an official release date of February 23, 2027, with Early Access tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 19, 2027. While the team had previously targeted January as a release month, Yoshida apologized for the three-week delay, mentioning the team needed a bit more time to meet the desired expectations of the expansion and its content.

At the start of the Keynote, a new extended trailer was shared, which introduced new characters that will be accompanying the players in this journey. However, one of these characters had a striking resemblance to a previous one we met in one of the initial main stories, Heavensward. But for more information on that, Yoshi-P said we will have to play this new chapter to see what that entails.

Another important announcement was the reveal of the new Job. In the previous Fan Fest, Bastion was revealed as one of two new Jobs coming in Evercold, and now Zephyr was announced as the other one. This physical ranged DPS Job brings a combination of crossbow shots and support from an avian familiar known as Nephele. While this Job was already kind of teased with the new story character, Visna, it is now officially confirmed to be the next class for those who enjoy ranged combat.

Other announcements from the keynote include:

  • New Areas in the Icebound Realm of the Fourth.
  • New Raid Series: New artwork for Beyond the Lifestream – a crossover with the FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Series.
  • New EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire Trailer.
  • New 8-Player Battle Content – High-difficulty 8-player battles featuring reworked encounters with bosses from alliance raids.
  • New Raid Series Difficulty: Fierce – A new level of difficulty, between the Normal and Savage difficulties.
  • Evolved Combat Mode – A new way to play your Warrior of Light that highlights each job’s unique identity.
  • New Reward System: Seasons – Seasons bring a significant change to how item rewards are obtained, providing a higher level of freedom to play the way you want to play.
  • Improved Character Creation & Character Action Skins – Expanded character customization and Character Action Skins allow new ways to express your character’s personality.

In addition to all this new content, some quality-of-life features will be made as well, such as better housing UI and controls, PvP updates, and more. For more Final Fantasy XIV news, stay tuned to GameObserver.
