Final Fantasy XIV Next Expansion Announced

Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 weekend has begun, and the celebration started strongly by showing a teaser trailer of its next 8.0 update expansion: Evercold. The teaser starts showing the Shards (different worlds) and The Fourth. Then the Warrior of Light, Estinien, and Alphinaud arrive at a new region that is under the threat of being completely frozen. The new world shows new regions as well as new races. After the teaser, Naoki Yoshida took the stage to promise that more details of this story will be explained both in the 7.5 Main Quests and at the next Fan Festivals.

However, that wasn’t all on Evercold, as a release date was announced for January 2027. Evercold also marks the start of a new era titled The Godless Realms Saga. Some art and screenshots of the new locations were also revealed. These include areas witgiant crystals, massive dragon monuments, lava-filled structures, a village of dwarf-like cats, and more.

A new way to play each Job will be arriving with Evercold: Evolve Mode.

Yoshida then continues on the importance of game design and evolving in this new era of Final Fantasy XIV. Some of the features that will receive enhancements include character appearance customization. A new color picker for hair, eyes, and skin color, as well as the requested “butt slider,” was mentioned to arrive in the future of the 8.0 series. Two new jobs are also coming with Evercold, though these will be showcased at the next Fan Fests. Level Cap for jobs will be increased from level 100 to 110, and individual gear will get more toggle On/Off options to let you personalize your Warrior of Light even more.

Additionally, the free trial version of Final Fantasy XIV has been announced to now cover up to the Shadowbringers expansion, so if you’ve been wanting to try the game, there is now more free content to play. Fan Fest will still be going until tomorrow with more developer panels, cosplay competitions, concerts, and more. So, stay tuned to GameObserver for more on Final Fantasy XIV.
