Fable Gets A Mature Rating In South Korea And Australia

Playground Games’ upcoming Fable reboot has now officially received age ratings in South Korea and Australia, a strong sign that development is moving forward well and matching the game’s planned Fall release window.

In South Korea, the Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) gave the game a 19+ rating, marked as “Not available to minors.” In Australia, the Australian Classification Board rated the game M for “Violence, Mature Themes.” The South Korean rating board explained its reasons for the classification with the following details:

  • Use of language that directly expresses sexual acts
  • Frequent killing, bloodshed, and bodily mutilation using weapons
  • Direct criminal acts based on user choices
  • Excessive use of vulgar language and profanity.

Fable will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The rating also included a description of the game, which says, “An immersive open-world action RPG depicting the player’s adventure to resolve the situation where villagers are turned to stone by an unidentified stranger.” According to these details, Playground Games is clearly not holding back on the adult content. It looks like the studio wants to keep the series’ dark humor and gritty fantasy world instead of aiming for a lower age rating and covering a wider audience.

Usually, when a game starts receiving official ratings like this, it means the game is content-complete. With the Xbox Games Showcase right around the corner, this could be the perfect moment for Microsoft and Playground Games to finally announce the release date for Fable.

While the exact release date is still unknown, it’s worth noting that there were reports claiming Fable could move from its original Fall window to 2027 in order to avoid getting overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto 6. However, with the game now receiving official age ratings in multiple countries, a delay feels less likely at this point. For more Fable related coverage, keep checking GameObserver.
