The FromSoftware masterpiece that is Elden Ring is getting a live-action adaptation to film, produced by independent film company A24. Best known for their arthouse and cult stylings behind films like The Lighthouse (2019), Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and Marty Supreme (2025), the studio is now taking a swing at the hugely popular trend of gaming adaptations.
The release date has now been set, as shared in a new report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR), aiming for a March 3, 2028 theatrical release. The film will is being directed and written by Alex Garland, known for his work on Civil War (2024) and 28 Days Later (2002). As production begins this week, we’ve also got a list of cast members who have been included on the Elden Ring call sheet.
To highlight just a few, Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce has been cast in the film, with many big-name pictures behind him including the Pirates of the Caribbean series as Governor Weatherby Swann, a leading role in The Crown as Prince Philip, and the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones. There’s also Emma Laird of Mayor of Kingstown fame, along with House of the Dragon and Oppenheimer star Jefferson Hall.

Elden Ring is perhaps a perfect pick for a live-action movie adaptation, given its rich lore with narrative contributions from both George R. R. Martin and FromSoftware’s own Hidetaka Miyazaki.The stacked production is described as A24’s “largest and most ambitious project” to date, with THR’s sources putting the budget at far beyond $100 million.
