We’re got a little over two weeks to go before the anticipated release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a sequel to the record-breaking 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. As has been increasingly trendy in current times, a novelty popcorn bucket for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was revealed a few weeks ago, and it seems demand is particularly high. Despite the movie not releasing for another two weeks, Cinemark Theatres have already sold out of their initial stock of the $50 Yoshi popcorn bucket.
As shared on their online store page, Cinemark say their “initial stock of the Yoshi Popcorn Buckets have now sold out, but don’t worry, we have more stock coming”, along with a sign up option to be notified when the next wave of stock drops. It’s an impressive feat to sell out of novelty merchandise so fast, especially with that price tag, and it’s potentially a sign of demand for the upcoming movie too. The first Mario film made over $1.3 billion at the global box office, so all eyes are on Nintendo and Illumination to see how they follow it up.

In case you hadn’t seen it yet, the Yoshi popcorn bucket will be available worldwide at select cinema chains alongside other merchandise, and it is quite adorable. It features a sculpted Yoshi holding his iconic white and green egg, which actually opens to store all your popcorn inside it. Novelty popcorn buckets are a rising trend, such as the Barbie movie with its hot pink car popcorn bucket, or Dune‘s somewhat disturbing tooth-lined Sandworm popcorn container.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases on April 1 in North America and Europe, with a release later in the month for Japanese audiences. It’s set to introduce Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Birdo and more iconic Mario characters into the Nintendo cinematic universe, along with the on-screen debut of Yoshi as voiced by Donald Glover.
