Today’s a big day for Bethesda, as Starfield breaks its Microsoft platform exclusivity and makes the leap to Sony’s PlayStation 5. Along with the PS5 release, there’s a whole host of changes and additions coming in the no-cost major Free Lanes update and the Terran Armada paid DLC, all releasing later today. You’d be forgiven for expecting this marks an ending point for major Starfield updates, but we’re happy to report this is far from the truth.
Creative producer Tim Lamb from Bethesda spoke to GamesRadar a few weeks back, and he confirmed that today’s Starfield PS5 launch and content drops are part of their wider plan for even more Starfield. In Lamb’s own words, “there’s things that still excite the team – there are still lore and places that we’re excited to explore; those would be the things we’ll be chasing after.”

Art director Istvan Pely continues “We’ve talked about so many different versions of DLCs that we want to do, that address different parts of the game – the list is crazy.”
In case it wasn’t clear enough, Pely says decisively “We intend to keep doing updates […] Whether or not they’re small or massive or somewhere in between… we definitely plan to keep going.” This is surely welcome news for Starfield fans, as whilst their are those who enjoy the game, a brief look at Steam’s mixed reviews show plenty of criticisms waiting to be addressed, from masses of loading screens to complaints about empty planets.

Bethesda are known for long-term support of their major releases, with both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4 both having plenty of DLC expansions and additional content. Despite its lesser reception, Starfield will be no exception. As Pely says himself, just because today’s Starfield update is a big one, “It’s not like this is the end of Starfield“.
Starfield is available on Xbox consoles, PC and later today on PS5. For more updates on all things Starfield and Bethesda’s latest announcements, check back often to GameObserver!
