Sony Announces Two September 3rd State Of Play Showcases

Sony announced a State of Play and State of Play Japan showcase for September 3rd in an official blog post. Sony’s standard September showcase in the lead-up to the Tokyo Game Show will be two separate showcases: Sony’s first State of Play begins at 6:00 am PT / 9:00 am ET / 3:00 pm CEST / 10:00 pm JST, followed by a State of Play Japan immediately after. In the official blog post Sony revealed “a new State of Play featuring updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, concluding with an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation from our friends at Square Enix.” Following that will be another State of Play Japan which “will offer deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including gameplay, announcements and more.

This will be the first State of Play Japan since November 2025, which featured Dynasty Warriors Origins, Elden Ring Nightreign DLC, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Coffee Talk Tokyo, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. No details were given on the length of either showcase, but Voice Actor Yuki Kaji will be returning to MC the State of Play Japan. Kaji hosted the previous November showcase, which featured about 40 minutes of updates, interviews, and reveals. Sony has held a State of Play in September for the last five years. The showcase last year saw a Saros extended look, Nioh 3, Battlefield 6, and the return of Insomniac Games’ Wolverine. The September 2025 State of Play also featured about 40 minutes of game updates.

This will be another major showcase for Square Enix and Final Fantasy VII Revelation in the last month, with the game and Revelation Director Naoki Hamaguchi making an appearance at Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live Gamescom showcase. It isn’t known how different these extended looks will be at this time, but with Sony’s official blog mentioning “an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation,” a look at some new locations not featured at Gamescom is certainly possible.

Sony’s next major release will be Insomnia’s Wolverine, releasing September 15th, but after God of War: Laufey‘s February release, not much is known about a lot of Sony first-party titles. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was last shown in 2024 and is already a popular prediction at this September’s State of Play. Jason Schreier at Bloomberg reported in December that Intergalactic was aiming for a Mid-2027 release. Haven’s Fairgame$ is another Sony title that has gone completely MIA that could definitely make a return here, much like Wolverine did last year. The tumultuous development that saw company founder Jade Raymond depart in May 2025 has been well documented at this point, but Bloomberg reported at the time of Raymond’s departure that the game was pushed to a Spring 2026 release date.
