Riot had initially planned to release the idea of League of Legends: Classic at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) on July 12. However, due to leaks and rumors, the Classic plans were released early, which got a lot of the League of Legends fandom very excited and nostalgic, to say the least.
On July 14, Riot developers shared an update noting that League of Legends: Classic, the blast from the past, will be arriving in the next patch. As it stands, League of Legends: Classic is currently in the Public Beta Environment (PBE), and it has been receiving a lot of feedback from those who have been playing it thus far.
Once League of Legends: Classic was first leaked, there was a lot of speculation regarding what season it would revert to and what would be included in the Classic mode. Instead of reverting to a certain season, though, the developers decided that the Classic mode would rather be a montage of multiple early seasons.

The original 40 champions would, of course, be present, with an additional 20 early-released champions at launch, handpicked by the developers. In addition to these 60 champions, the developers plan to make some reworks and add more champions after the initial release of the Classic mode. The developers noted that League of Legends: Classic started with the Season 3 framework and was built on it. Old summoner spells would return, as well as “more targeted abilities and less dashes,” according to the newest update.
Feedback from the League community has been very mixed thus far. A lot of players are unhappy that the old UI is not coming back, so the in-game shop will still be the shop that we have today. Others are upset that the Classic skins are going to be behind a paywall, even though all skins in League of Legends are behind similar paywalls. Not everyone is feeling upset about the Classic mode coming, though. One X user notes that “Everybody is killing it. Content, PR, Social, and of course, the game team. I haven’t been this hyped to play League in some time.” One thing we are all hoping for is the return of Twisted Treeline, but as of right now, there has been no confirmation of whether this iconic game mode will be making a return since its removal in 2019.
