Five Predictions For League of Legends: Classic

If you haven’t heard, buckle up. Riot has officially confirmed all the rumors; League of Legends: Classic is coming soon.

League of Legends now has 173 playable champions with the recent addition of mid-lane assassin, Locke. For players who have been here since League’s release in 2009, there is a yearning for a time when things were simpler.

League Classic will be reverting to a smaller number of champions. There will be the 40 original champions, plus approximately 20 extra champions as well. Moreover, all the old items and summoner spells will be making a return in this mode as well.

With so many possibilities, what could League Classic entail? Here are five of my predictions that I hope we see in this new Riot endeavor:

1. The Return of Twisted Treeline

Twisted Treelines was a special game mode that had not in the game since 2019.

Twisted Treeline is easily the most sought-after, older piece of League of Legends content, hands down. While Riot has added in new modes like URF and Arena, the fan base has yearned for the return of Twisted Treeline and the memories they have with it. This will be the perfect opportunity to bring back memories for League gamers.

2. All Old Skins Available for Purchase

A variety of Legacy skins from League of Legends.

This is a great opportunity for Riot to bring back so many retired skins and cash in on the players who started League of Legends a bit later. There are a plethora of old skins that have not been available to buy, which means we could be seeing some Legacy skins (or hopefully, all of them) in the store.

3. Busted Character Builds

Graves and Yi, I’m looking at you. There’s undoubtedly going to be some old champions that absolutely dominate games, and I have a feeling that Graves and Yi are going to be two of them. With old items and original reworks, I can see these champions carrying games easily.

4. IP Will Force Players to Think of Character Choices

Not all champions are carries, though. With IP (Influence Points) making a return, I predict that game compositions are not going to flow as well as they do today. With 173 champions, you have plenty of options to make things work of course. With less than half of these champions, IP reconfigured, and old items, there will definitely be an art to the draft process once again.

5. Veterans Will Invent New Metas

This announcement has to be bringing some League Veterans out of the woodwork. This has been talked about for years, but is now finally happening. I think that a lot of veterans will make a return for this, and with their knowledge of previous metas, they will invent new metas that will absolutely blow the minds of traditional players today.

Riot plans to give the public more information at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) Finals on July 12th. Stay tuned for more updates regarding League of Legends: Classic and other LoL news!
