Phantom Blade Zero’s Side Quests Can Influence The Main Story

In an interview released on the official X account of Phantom Blade Zero, S-Game CEO and creative director Soulframe Liang has revealed that the game’s side quests will have an effect on the main missions. When explaining Phantom Blade Zero’s Wuxia system, Liang breaks it down into two specific elements: Wu and Xia.

When describing the Xia aspect and how they plan on bringing that into gameplay, Liang’s response included details about the game’s side quests and how they might affect the hero’s journey: “In your process of acting with honor, you might actually influence your own main quest and your own story of love and vengeance. Under this influence, you will discover that, as long as you act according to your code of honor, as long as you do the right things, you will find that it will have a bigger, more macroscopic impact.”

Phantom Blade Zero is one of the most anticipated games releasing in the second half of 2026

How these side quests will influence things is unknown, but fans quickly started to draw comparisons to Red Dead Redemption’s Honor system. For those unaware, in that game, the system influenced how NPCs react to the player character, as well as changing store prices and various lines of dialogue throughout the story. Phantom Blade Zero’s X account would clarify a day later that, “ Phantom Blade Zero doesn’t have an “honor system,” but side quests can influence the direction of the main story.”

The interview releases more details on the development of the game, with Liang saying Phantom Blade Zero is in the final stretch of development. With Summer Game Fest and other showcases happening before the game’s September 9th release on PlayStation 5 and PC, we will hopefully get further details on this much-anticipated action-RPG.
