Nintendo Signals The End Of Switch 1 As Its Games Will No Longer Appear In Nintendo Directs

If you still use the original Nintendo Switch and watch Nintendo Directs to find out about new games, there is a big change coming. Nintendo may no longer show games for the first Switch in future Nintendo Direct events, as the company is now moving its focus fully to Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo has decided to focus its attention and media resources on the Nintendo Switch 2 for the September 9 Nintendo Direct, leaving behind announcements of new first-party games for the first generation of the platform. Future events and broadcasts may no longer focus on software updates for the original Switch. There could still be some exceptions. Third-party games may continue to appear if they are also being released for the original Nintendo Switch. However, Nintendo’s own focus is now clearly moving toward Switch 2.

For the upcoming Nintendo Direct events on September 9, the usual mention of “Nintendo Switch” is missing. This is not by accident. From now on, Nintendo will likely focus on Switch 2, while games for the original Switch versions will no longer be part of these events.

The official Japanese announcement for the Nintendo Direct was the first to make this change clear, saying that “we will bring you information on Nintendo Switch 2 software, mainly focusing on titles scheduled for release this winter.” Previous Nintendo Direct announcements clearly mentioned the original Nintendo Switch alongside Switch 2, but this time, the original console is missing.

This doesn’t mean the original Switch will stop working or lose its current services. The console will still have its existing games, the eShop, and features such as GameShare.
