Monster Hunter Stories 3: How To Get A Lagiacrus Egg

Lagiacrus is a popular leviathan monster that has appeared in many a Monster Hunter title and, like in its previous entries, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection also allows you to hatch and befriend this magnificent monstie! You can find them from fairly early into the game, in fact! Despite this, there are specific circumstances you must meet to get yourself a Lagiacrus egg, and it can be easy to miss. This guide will cover every step in the process to take you from no Lagiacrus to hatching your own Lagi best friend!

Where To Find Your First Lagiacrus Egg

Traveling to this cave on Mirror Lake at night will trigger an invasive monster battle.

In Monster Hunter Stories 3, Lagiacrus is sadly considered an endangered monster. This means that, in order to find your first Lagi egg, you will have to fight off an invasive monster. Despite the challenge this poses, you can get a Lagi egg early into your adventures, as the invasive monster is lairing in a secret cave off Mirror Lake in Azuria, the game’s starting area.

You’ll want to travel to the Mirror Lake Catavan Stand at night to allow you to trigger the specific invasive monster encounter needed. From here, you’ll want to swim through the river to the north of your little island, as seen in the image above, until you reach a hidden cave marked with ominous music. Once inside, you will trigger an encounter with…an invasive Plesioth!

How To Force The Retreat Of The Invasive Plesioth

Target the invasive Plesioth’s head with fire damage to force it to retreat.

Invasive Plesioth can be a powerful foe if you are still early game while taking him on. Luckily, you can spend his initial turns focusing on your own survivability, if needed, holding out until ‘the real fight begins’. Invasive Plesioth will use Technical Attacks and will begin with powerful Aqua Jet attacks.

If you are able to survive the initial onslaught, Plesioth will enter its invasive form. This is the stage where you need to focus on attacking the Plesioth’s head with fire attacks. Command your Monstie to target its head too, and bring along some battle allies who are good for fire damage – Eleanor and her Anjanath are good options! Once its head is broken, the Plesioth will retreat.

How To Claim Your Lagiacrus Egg

Once the invasive Plesioth has retreated to the endangered species den, you will be able to follow it and find the beautiful Lagiacrus egg! Interact with it to claim your very own Lagiacrus egg. From here, you can hatch it the usual way at any stables.

It is worth noting that, while you can keep your initial Lagiacrus, if you want to encounter more Lagis and be able to find their eggs in the wild, you will need to release your first Lagiacrus into the wild via the Habitat Restoration services available at any camps. This is also the only way to get the special subspecies, Ivory Lagiacrus.

Either way, by fending off the invasive Plesioth, you will have your own Lagiacrus! They are a Power type monstie with Thunder element attacks. They will serve you well as a powerful companion on land and in water! Let us know any other monsters you want covering in the comments! Struggling with your first elder dragon battle?
