Back in 2021, Marvel in partnership with Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix released Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a large-scale action-adventure game that put players in the shoes of the titular whacky spacefaring team, which despite getting positive reviews from fans and critics was seen as a sales disappointment internally at Square Enix. It seems the game will be getting another chance though, as it has just been spotted on the Taiwanese ratings board being listed for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The listing was first noticed over on Reddit, and the comments are flooded with fans hoping it to be accurate. It would be a big story if we do get the Switch 2 version of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as listed on the ratings site, because the original Switch release of the game was a cloud-only streaming version. Eidos-Montréal were unable to make the game operate well enough on the base version of the Switch’s hardware, hence them opting to release the game via the cloud. It would be a great option for Switch 2 owners to be able to play the full, non-streaming version of the game, especially now that the hardware is significantly stronger than it used to be.
Whilst there is no official confirmation from Square Enix that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to Switch 2, it is likely now given the age rating. It’s a frequent occurrence that new games and ports get leaked by ratings boards, and it’s usually a sign that they aren’t far from launching when they do get spotted. There’s always room for human error, so do keep in mind that it could be accidental.
If we are getting a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy reveal for Switch 2 sometime soon, we’d usually anticipate this in a Nintendo Direct. Whilst the company hasn’t held back with its partner Directs, we’re long overdue a full, first-party Direct with the more sizeable announcements. Nintendo has instead been opting to post their major news directly in their Nintendo Today app or on social media randomly, so we’ll be keeping our eyes on all Nintendo’s major communication channels for the potential reveal.
