The upcoming roster additions to a popular fighting game are always the subject of great anticipation, especially as regards leaks, rumors, and speculations regarding guest characters. The recent rumors for Street Fighter 6 are just as hyped, with rumors that Tifa Lockhart of Final Fantasy 7 will join the game’s roster alongside returning characters Gouken, Vega, and Mike Haggar of Final Fight.
The source for these claims is Reddit user RnK_Clan, who previously predicted Fatal Fury/ King of Fighters’ Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui’s addition to the roster, and were corroborated by YouTuber Rooflemonger and ResetERA user LeytonWright, both of whom seemed quite certain about the character’s inclusion in the fighting game.
Tifa’s inclusion in Street Fighter 6 may initially seem odd given she is an RPG character, but it is far from the martial artist’s first foray into fighting games. Her second ever appearance was in Dream Factory/ Namco’s Ehrgeiz, God Bless the Ring as a secret character, and she was playable in Square-Enix’s Hybrid fighters Dissidia Duodecim and Dissidia NT. Additionally, the recent inclusion of Cloud and Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros and Noctis and Clive in Tekken 7 and 8 shows that Square-Enix has been more willing to allow their characters to appear in third-party fighting games as of late. If the leak is correct about Tifa joining the Year 4 roster, it could also coincide with Final Fantasy 7‘s 30th anniversary and the 3rd part of the Remake Trilogy.
There was also speculation about Tifa’s possible playstyle. Most posters pointed to Tifa’s emphasis on speed, combos, and follow-ups, making her an excellent choice for a Rekka-style fighter, and her moveset may be inspired by her weapon abilities and limit breaks, suggesting we could get a Chi Trap move or Dolphin Blow as a super move.
Capcom has not yet said anything about their Year 4 roster, either to confirm or deny the inclusion of Tifa Lockhart or any other character.
