This week, Capcom will be celebrating its Capcom Cup and Street Fighter League events, where players from all over the world will compete for a $1,000,000 prize. Competitors like MenaRD, Xiaohai, Blaz, and others will be joining the tournament. However, pro players weren’t the only ones to take the stage; pro wrestler Kenny Omega also made an appearance during the event’s opening.
Accompanied by a wrestling-style entrance and cosplaying as the character Alex from Street Fighter, Kenny Omega joined the stage to welcome the audience and viewers. While Omega showing up might have been a surprise, his cosplay choice wasn’t. A couple of weeks ago, on social media, the Street Fighter team shared a video confirming Omega as the motion capture actor for Alex. Alex’s fighting style is inspired by pro wrestling, so it makes sense that a wrestler would also be performing the move sets that will translate into the game. Omega was also part of the marketing for the latest character pass, where he cosplayed as the four new fighters.

While fans were excited to see Omega in his Alex cosplay, some fans were not very happy with this year’s Capcom Cup, most notably because of the PPV element. To watch the finals, viewers must either pay for a ticket to watch online or they can spectate from the Battle Hub inside SF6 for free, but server space will be limited. Capcom listened to feedback and lowered the ticket prices; however, some fans are still disappointed that video content from the PPV finals cannot be shared until a week after the event. Some content creators and players have taken to social media to express that watching the tournament with a group is what makes these events so special. Time will tell if this is the correct strategy for the event or if Capcom will make some modifications in the future.
The Capcom Cup 12 and Street Fighter League events will take place from March 11 to 15, with the Cup finals on the 14, and the Leagues final on the 15. Alex will join the Street Fighter 6 roster on March 17. Will you be watching the Cup and picking up Alex when he releases?
