Gears of War: E-Day Set To Become The Longest Game In The Series With A 14+ Hour Campaign

Gears of War: E-Day is shaping up to be one of Xbox’s biggest releases of the year, and it looks like fans can expect a much bigger story than ever before. Gears of War: E-Day will feature a story campaign lasting more than 14 hours, making it the longest single-player campaign in the history of the franchise.

This was confirmed by Creative Director Matt Searcy during an interview with IGN. He said, “Gears of War: E-Day is ‘longer than any campaign [The Coalition has] built’ at over 14 hours, with more collectibles than it’s ever had before in a campaign. Of course, this includes the classic COG Tags.”  The length puts the game ahead of every previous entry in the series. Most previous titles could be completed in around ten hours, while Gears 5 was previously the longest entry with a campaign of roughly 13 hours. If the final game matches that target, E-Day will become the longest campaign in the franchise’s history.

Gears of War: E-Day campaign time
Gears of War: E-Day will not be coming to the PlayStation 5.

While the campaign remains a linear experience, Searcy said that “some levels feature larger areas to explore.” These larger areas will not only allow players to choose different ways to “approach a target,” but will also provide opportunities to learn more about the Bravo Squad. In addition, he also revealed that players won’t only be playing as Marcus Fenix. All four members of Bravo Squad will be playable from the beginning.

If you didn’t know, Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. While many fans thought the game could eventually come to PlayStation 5, that was apparently never the plan, with Searcy stating in another interview that a PS5 version was never even being “talked about.”

This decision could be part of Xbox’s new strategy to bring back its focus on exclusives, as the company has stated that future Xbox games will be handled on a “case-by-case” basis when it comes to platform availability.
