The current season of Fortnite, titled Showdown, is set to end on June 5. With less than a month to go, the season-long narrative event is entering its final act, and it’s set to feature a huge collaboration: Overwatch.
In a new teaser video posted to their social media, the third and final act is teased with a silhouette, but it’s one that will be instantly recognisable for fans of hero shooters. It’s unmistakably the silhouette of Overwatch hero D.Va, made clear by the outline of her armor, the high ponytail, and of course the hand heart.
If that wasn’t obvious enough, the Fortnite account themselves wrote “ACT III needs heroes”, along with a suspicious eyes emoji. This is a direct reference to Overwatch‘s tagline for the last decade, which has been “the world could always use more heroes.” With Act III set to begin on May 14, this is the same day we’ll see the heroes of Overwatch make their way to the island.
The endless mill of Fortnite leaks from insiders have actually already revealed which Overwatch heroes will be getting skins in the battle royale. Specifically, it’s expected to be D.Va, Mercy, Tracer and Genji, four of the most iconic heroes the game has to offer, and all part of the launch hero roster back in 2016.
The timing of the Overwatch collaboration is perfect for Blizzard. Later today, the 10th Anniversary Event begins in Overwatch, rewarding players with a bunch of new skins, cosmetics and Loot Boxes. The hype cycle beginning now in Fortnite for the collaboration with Blizzard’s hit game is perfectly timed, potentially drawing extra eyes on both titles at once.
