Square Enix just released updated lifetime sales totals for both their Bravely and Octopath Traveler franchises, and they’re hitting some big milestones between them. We like to follow and report on the latest gaming sales updates, so let’s break down how these two major JRPG franchises are performing.
First up was the Bravely announcement, with Square Enix sharing over on X (formerly Twitter) that the series has now crossed 4 million copies sold worldwide. The announcement coincides with the Steam and Xbox launch of Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, a remaster of the first game in the series from the 3DS, improved with new features. This was a launch title for the Switch 2, which likely helped in bumping up sales of the Bravely series to cross the milestone sooner.

Next comes the Octopath Traveler franchise update, which has now sold over 7 million copies worldwide! This is a big milestone, especially for a newer franchise that only has a few games to its name so far. The initial Octopath Traveler released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, and was monumental towards the explosion of the HD-2D visual style in Square Enix’s RPGs.
These numbers might be much smaller than Final Fantasy‘s 207 million unit lifetime sales or Dragon Quest‘s 95 million copies sold, but these series are decades older! It’s a great sign for the JRPG genre to still see new franchises grow in size and crossing major sales milestones. Almost 40 years on from the release of the first Final Fantasy, the beloved genre continues to find new generations of fans.
