Famitsu: Nintendo Switch 2 Crosses 3 Million Units Sold In Japan

The Famitsu sales charts track hardware and boxed game sales in Japan, and we report on those sales as the chart releases every Thursday! This week’s chart covers December 1 to December 7, as the holiday sales boom sends the Switch 2 soaring past 3 million units sold in Japan alone thanks to an additional 203,000 sales this past week. That’s an enormous start to December for Nintendo, and the software sold reflects this sales explosion too.

The top three on the chart was ruled by Mario Kart WorldKirby Air Riders and Pokemon Legends: Z-A respectively, will all three of them experiencing the holiday sales surge. Mario Kart sold more than double what it did last week, with over 102,000 units sold, whilst Kirby‘s tiny rise let it score another 46,000 copies sold this week. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Switch and Switch 2 release are charting separately, but if we combined sales they sold an additional 84,000 units this past week.

As for new releases, the hotly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond struggled to sell, only appearing on the chart with its Switch 2 Edition at #6 with 21,000 units sold. The series has never been a huge seller in Japan, and digital sales might give the game hope. Even Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler 0 debut managed to chart higher, taking spots #5, #8 and #9 on the chart with its multi-platform release. Combined, it sold more than 59,000 copies.
