Critical Reflex Announces 3 New Indie Horror Publishing Deals

Indie game publisher Critical Reflex has announced three new publishing deals under its indie horror publishing label, CR Channel. The Mouthwashing and No, I’m Not a Human publisher has signed on to publish three low-poly indie horror games: PackDev’s SOS Recordings, Filthy Eden’s Cucina Stellata, and Bananadevjeff’s Grobnopolis | Last Days.

In SOS Recordings, we play as a detective uncovering the truth of a mysterious SOS sign.

Along with the publishing deal announcement, viewers of the Wishlisted Indie Game Showcase were treated to the premiere of a new gameplay trailer of SOS Recordings, a narrative psychological horror game based on a real-life cold case. Set in Japan, 1989, two hikers have gone missing while climbing Mount Asahi, Hokkaido. When a rescue helicopter finds the two hikers alive, it also finds a giant SOS sign made from tree trunks, which the hikers themselves claim to have not made. We take the role of a detective tasked with uncovering the truth by listening to recordings and exploring the landscape. SOS Recordings is due to release this year.

Cucina Stellata is a narrative cooking game filled with trippy visuals.

Psychological horror and cooking simulators are two genres that you wouldn’t often see come together, however Filthy Eden’s Cucina Stellata does just this, offering a Lovecraftian narrative experience that can be completed in one sitting with its one-hour runtime. This trippy horror game was created during a two-month-long game jam, and will have players create authentic 19th-Century Italian dishes while experiencing vivid hallucinations driven by insatiable hunger.

Finally, solo developer Bananadevjeff’s Grobnopolis | Last Days is an extended version of the itch.io game, Funeralopolis | Last Days, an hour-long atmospheric horror experience. Set in Huta-Grobno, players take on the role of an apartment block caretaker who must survive the last days in the city, which is slowly dying in darkness under the absence of the sun, as a mysterious substance oozes from the city’s mines and seeps up its buildings, and a church rises to take control. While everyone around you panics, you keep the apartment running for as long as you can and can piece together the story of the events going on around you through exploration. Grobnopolis | Last Days is currently slated to release this year.
