Final Fantasy XIV: How To Get Tifa And Barret’s Outfits

Final Fantasy XIV continues its collaboration events, this time bringing a partnership with another title in the franchise, Final Fantasy VII. This event, titled Keybound Brawler, brings a typing minigame of the same name and cosmetic rewards from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know about how to get these cosmetics, especially the highlights of the event: Tifa’s and Barret’s outfits. The event will be available from October 28, 2026, to the release of Patch 8.0.

First of all, you will need access to the Gold Saucer in Ul’dah. To gain entry you need to complete the side quest “It Could Happen to You” which you need to be Level 15 as a requirement, and must first complete one of the following main scenario quests: “The Gridanian Envoy,” “The Ul’dahn Envoy,” or “The Lominsan Envoy.” You can travel to the Manderville Gold Saucer via airship from any of the three city-states upon completing any of these quests.

A familiar face will be your entry into this event.

Once at the Gold Saucer, in the Entrance Square, look for the Catlike Mammet (Cait Sith from FFVII) at coordinates X:5.4, Y:7.0. Accept the Keyward Bound side quest from the Mammet to begin the event. The Mammet will be promoting this newly arrived attraction at the Saucer and will send you to its entrance at the Wonder Square. Speak to the Keybound Gatekeeper to enter the event area.

In the Keybound Square, speak to the Magitype Master at the left counter to explain the rules of the game and complete the quest. However, we are barely getting started with the event. Speak to the Keybound Registrar by the side of the Master to queue into a Keybound Brawler match.

NOTE: A KEYBOARD IS MANDATORY FOR THIS GAME MODE!

Keybound Brawler Explained

A green prompt will appear to reinforce that wall.

This new mini-game is inspired by the Final Fantasy VII games, bringing enemies and even music from that series. In terms of rules and gameplay, it works similarly to a tower defense mode, but players defeat enemies by typing the words above each foe. You get paired with three other players and defend an area against three enemy waves. A boss spawns at the end of wave two, and wave three consists of defeating an Airbuster Boss.

After each match, you will earn Manderville Gold Saucer Credits (MGC), the exclusive currency for this event. Speak to the MGC Trader in the Keybound Square to redeem them. Here, you will find a variety of items related to FFVII, including Tifa’s and Barret’s outfits (as of now, these glams are gender-locked). All the items available from this trader include:

  • Avalanche Brawler’s Top, 430 MGC

Keybound Brawler Tips

Final Fantasy XIV keybound
Keep an eye on enemies’ icons.
  • It goes without saying that our first advice is to take some breaks between matches. The game mode requires rapid typing for a long period, which can cause some pain in the arms. Make sure to have a comfortable setup and take those breaks.
  • Exclamation marks and question marks can be ignored. Dashes can be ignored too; just make sure to write the word together instead of spaced. Apostrophes can be ignored. Basically, every type of mark can be ignored.
  • Capitalization can be ignored.
  • Keep an eye out for the DO NOT-TYPE enemy alert.
  • There are classic, rare pots enemies with “Gimme an Elixir.” Eliminate them for score multipliers.
  • Focus on reinforcing the Wall when available, especially on the final round. Missing this might prove critical.
  • Most words will be related to Final Fantasy VII terminology.
