Just weeks before 007 First Light is set to launch, a major leak has put the upcoming James Bond game and several other unreleased titles in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. A security issue at Indonesia’s IGRS ratings board has reportedly leaked gameplay details and footage that developers had submitted as part of the age classification process.
According to VGC, the breach was caused by a flaw on the IGRS website that left confidential material publicly accessible. The game most affected by the leak appears to be IO Interactive’s 007 First Light, with more than an hour of gameplay and story footage reportedly already spreading online, including what looks like the game’s ending. Since the title is set to release on May 27, the leak comes at a particularly bad time.
Other unreleased projects reportedly caught in the breach include Bandai Namco’s Echoes of Aincrad, while titles such as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse have also been linked to the leaked data. However, unlike 007 First Light, footage from those games does not appear to have surfaced publicly.
The leaked data was originally sent to the Indonesian ratings board so it could review content such as violence, language, and nudity and give the games the proper age rating. What should have stayed private as part of the normal rating process instead became publicly available because of the reported security issue. Beyond gameplay footage, it is also reported that the breach may have exposed the email addresses of thousands of game developers registered with the system.
