XBOX Brings Backward Compatibility To PC And Handhelds

XBOX players can take a breather amid the recent changes at Xbox. This time, the XBOX team is bringing its popular Backward Compatibility program to PC. For those who are not familiar with the program, the Backward Compatibility feature allows games from previous generations (XBOX, XBOX 360, XBOX One) to be playable on the latest console. This system will now be expanding to PC, including handhelds like the ROG XBOX Ally and XBOX Ally X.

“Your library is more than just a collection of games. It is your personal history of epic stories and treasured memories from the past,” says Jason Ronald, VP at XBOX, in the announcement post, “And as players, we don’t want to leave our gaming legacy behind even as technology continues to evolve and advance.” This initiative of bringing classic console games to Windows devices starts today with four titles, which are:

  • BLiNX: The Time Sweeper
  • Conker: Live and Reloaded
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Fuzion Frenzy

These classic titles are now available to play on PC for the first time, and more are on the way.

However, Ronald also states that this is just the beginning of the program, with more games coming in the future: “This marks the beginning of a broader effort to preserve XBOX games from the past and bring them to PC over time.” In addition, these games will be accompanied by other features in their debut on PC, such as 4x resolution upscaling, Fullscreen and Windowed display modes, enhanced anti-aliasing, new achievements for both console and PC, and more. The system requirements for these backward-compatible titles through the XBOX on PC app are as follows:
