Slay The Spire 2 Debuts With Over 400,000 Concurrent Steam Players

The original Slay the Spire was a huge hit for indie developer Mega Crit, so we all anticipated a big audience for its follow up Slay the Spire 2. Perhaps what we didn’t expect was exactly how enormous it would be though, as Slay the Spire 2 has over 400,000 concurrent players within 24 hours from launch and it’s still rising. Perhaps most impressively of all though – this is an Early Access launch!

Mega Crit expect the game will take another year or two to complete, but opted to launch in Early Access for the “player feedback” to their “experimental features, exotic designs,” and to “make sure the game is headed in the right direction.” The game is still packed full of new and returning heroes and enemies, alongside the next evolution of the Spire, once again a twisting labyrinth with surprise around every corner.

Slay the Spire 2 adds new characters, alongside its returning favorites.

The initial release of Slay the Spire 2 made waves yesterday despite it being a packed one for game launches, seeing the release of MarathonPokémon Pokopia and Slay the Spire 2 all in the same day. Just a few hours on from launch and the roguelike deck-builder already had double the players of Bungie’s latest Marathon, with that gap growing today to the point where Mega Crit’s indie darling has around five times more peak concurrent Steam players then Marathon.

As for what’s to come for Slay the Spire players, there’s new gameplay content to be added in future updates through new game modes, visual effects, endings and more. With this huge launch, Mega Crit has a massive audience to take inspiration and ideas from; it’s a great opportunity to use Early Access to its full potential.
