PS6 Could Cost $699 With A Subsidy, Insider Says

The current console generation from Sony and Microsoft has now reached five years, and with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this is the first time we have seen price increases instead of price cuts. As a result, many are wondering whether the PlayStation 6 could launch at as much as $1,000.

According to well-known hardware leaker KeplerL2, that may not be the case, as the current estimated manufacturing cost is around $760. Still, caution is needed, as several analysts believe that both the PS6 and Xbox Helix could launch at noticeably higher prices than current consoles.

PlayStation 5 Pro is listed at $899.99 USD following recent price adjustments by Sony.

This discussion started after Sony’s latest price increases for its hardware. The company recently announced price hikes ranging from $100 to $150 across different PS5 models. Not only that, but the PS Portal now costs $50 more, and the PS5 Pro has gone up by $150, bringing its price to $899.99 from April 2026.

It was this topic that led KeplerL2 to comment on possible PS6 pricing. On NeoGAF, the hardware leaker was asked what might happen if RAM and NAND memory prices do not fall and instead continue to rise. One user said they had expected to buy the PS6 for $699, but were no longer sure whether that would be possible “without Sony losing too much money on each console.” In response, KeplerL2 shared his current estimate for the bill of materials (BOM). He stated, “My current BOM estimate for PS6 is ~$760, so I would say $699 is still possible with a reasonable subsidy. The question is if Sony will even bother now that Xbox is not direct competition anymore.”

For now, we still do not know the real cost of making a PS6, nor the final launch price Sony may choose when the console is released. However, the ongoing component shortage and memory pricing issues could continue for quite some time.
