We’re quickly approaching the April 16 release of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the long-awaited sequel to the 2013’s 3DS hit Tomodachi Life. To get fans ready for the full launch, and promote the release to those who might be on the fence, a demo titled Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version is now available to download on the Nintendo eShop. The demo, like the full game, is exclusively available on the Switch 2.
If you do give the demo a shot, you’ll be able to create up to three Mii characters and have a small taste of the full game with a limited starting scenario. Progress made in the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream demo will be transferrable to the full release next month, and completing the demo will even come with an exclusive reward that you can transfer over too. As a thank you for finishing the demo, you’ll be treated to a delightfully strange hamster costume for your Mii characters to wear in the full release. That kind of thing is normal in the world of Tomodachi Life.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is Nintendo’s take on the life simulation genre. Unlike Animal Crossing or Pokémon Pokopia though, this series plays out more like The Sims. With loads of character customization options through the Mii system, relationship dynamics between characters and plenty of ways to decorate and build out your environment all ultimately creating an in-game community of friends, families and foes, the Tomodachi Life experience is a delightfully bizarre one.
The Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version demo is available now on the Nintendo eShop, with a gradual rollout today starting with Japan and Europe. The full game releases on April 16 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
