Minecraft Gets Switch 2 Edition Rated By ESRB

The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost a year old now, and it has gradually been receiving new updates and releases that enhance the existing versions of games. From the big Switch 2 Edition official upgrades by Nintendo to small patches dropped by developers to make their game a little more Switch 2 friendly, there are constant new ways to play your existing games. Now though, a major release seems to be gearing up for a new edition for Nintendo’s latest hardware: Minecraft.

Earlier today, Minecraft got a new rating from the ESRB specifically for a Nintendo Switch 2 release. Whilst Minecraft is already playable as a backward-compatible Switch title, the new rating suggests a dedicated version may be coming particularly soon for Switch 2. Unlike other region ratings boards, ESRB ratings typically arrive very close to game drops, so Minecraft fans should likely brace for its potential reveal sometime soon.

Nintendo have had a great relationship with Minecraft for years, even releasing an official Mario collaboration pack.

Despite being playable on Switch 2, the existing version of Minecraft never received an enhanced version or patch to take advantage of the stronger hardware. With the additional strength of the Switch 2, we’d expect Minecraft to get improved render distance, frame rates and potentially resolution as well. The Switch 2’s upscaling capabilities are a great match for Minecraft, and we’re eager to see how the enhanced version will potentially perform.

It would be a great time to port Minecraft over to Switch 2, as the next major ‘Chaos Cubed’ update gears up for launch on June 16. We wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft choose to drop the update on the same date, but nothing is confirmed just yet. This next major update will add sulfur caves, along with their new mob sulfur cubes and new blocks sulfur and cinnabar!

The upcoming Chaos Cubed update releases in just a few weeks time.

Minecraft is currently available on practically every existing console and mobile device, with potentially the Switch 2 joining the roster soon.
