Hideo Kojima Reveals Bill Skarsgård As Lead For Physint

Hideo Kojima made an appearance at Xbox’s Tokyo Game presentation to provide an update on both Xbox projects currently in development at Kojima Productions. The legendary director closed the presentation with the biggest bit of news being the reveal that Bill Skarsgård would be playing the lead role in Physint. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together,” Kojima said about the collaboration during the presentation (via Xbox’s English subtitles).

Bill Skarsgård joins a cast that already includes Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Don Lee (Train To Busan) and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One). Skarsgård is best known for his role as Pennywise in the recent It movies, along with the 2025 TV series It: Welcome to Derry. Skarsgård is known for taking on unique roles and fits in perfectly with the type of actor that Kojima has gravitated towards for his previous games.

The reveal and closing portion of the Xbox presentation served as a clear display of the strengthening relationship between Hideo Kojima and Xbox’s new leadership. Kojima’s appearance comes on the heels of last week’s announcements that Sony would drop support of Physint and that the game would be picked up by Microsoft. In a press release on the Xbox Wire Blog, Xbox stated that “the collaboration also extends beyond games, with the companies working together across film and television to bring new stories to broader audiences”

Beyond the reveal of Bill Skarsgård, Kojima talked about the project briefly, describing Physint as “the culmination of more than 40 years of my career: a project that will redefine “action-espionage,” unbound by any existing genres in digital entertainment” and that “The project continues to make steady progress.” Last week’s news, along with the reveal of Bill Skarsgård’s involvement in the project, are the first real updates to Physint since its original reveal two years ago.

Along with Physint, Kojima provided a minor update to OD-Knock. “Performance capture and ADR recording, which had been paused during the SAG strike, resumed this year, and production is proceeding on schedule,” Kojima stated. “Development of OD is progressing smoothly.” No release date for OD-Knock is known at this time. The game was originally revealed in 2022 and stars Sophia Lillis (It), Hunter Schaefer (Euphoria), and Udo Kier (Blade).
