Forza Horizon 5 has been a big success on PS5, and its numbers have now proven that. The game has officially passed 5 million copies sold on Sony’s console. This makes it one of Xbox’s most successful game launches on PlayStation and shows that Microsoft’s plan of bringing first-party games to other platforms is working better than many expected.
After launching on PS5 in April 2025, the game quickly became one of the best-selling games on the platform that year. Virtuos, the co-developer of the PS5 version, confirmed this milestone and also said the game was received very well by players, with a strong 92 score on Metacritic. The studio said, “Forza Horizon 5 was one of the best-selling titles on PlayStation 5 in 2025, surpassing 5 million copies sold on the platform and earning widespread acclaim with a 92 Metacritic score.”

The success was also important for Xbox financially. Reports say the PS5 version generated around $300 million in extra revenue, with many seeing this as proof that releasing games on more platforms can be a good idea, especially for multiplayer games like Forza Horizon, where having more players helps the game grow even more.
Virtuos played a major role in making this version successful. The company worked on around 90% of the photo-realistic vehicles, environmental assets, and character work in the port. Compared to other Xbox games that arrived on PlayStation, Forza Horizon 5 performed much better than Sea of Thieves and clearly beat the early sales of Starfield.
Even with this strong result, Microsoft is still keeping the same plan for Forza Horizon 6. The next game will first launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC in mid-May, while the PS5 version will come later on a date that has not been announced yet. In addition, estimates suggest that Forza Horizon 6 has already passed 511,000 pre-sales on Steam, reaching this milestone around one month before its official launch
