Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Will End Service This Year

In a social media post and a blog post, Square Enix has announced that the mobile and PC game Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will be ending its service later this year: “We regret to inform you that we will be ending service for FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS on Oct. 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT.” Given the fact that it’s an online-only gacha game, on that day, it will become functionally unplayable.

“We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for the abrupt nature of this announcement,” continues the blog post. “Since the launch of the App Store and Google Play versions on Sep. 7, 2023, and the Steam version on Dec. 6, 2023, we have worked to provide the best possible experience for our players. After careful consideration, however, we have determined that it will be difficult to continue doing so and have made the decision to end service.”

Ever Crisis had many crossover events with other Final Fantasy characters, as well as guests from other franchises.

Regarding Red Crystals (in-game currency), they can be used until the end of service. For unused, paid-for in-game currency, refunds will be issued (this currently only applies to Taiwan residents): “your account information will need to be verified. Please do not delete the app or switch devices and reinstall the app until the refund process has concluded.”

For a while, the previous leadership at Square Enix seemed determined to chase many gaming trends, including mobile games such as Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier and Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius. New leadership, however, seems more focused on a system for making more of those quality legacy games the company is known for. This includes transforming some of those canceled mobile games into single-player experiences like Final Fantasy Resonance. Many fans are now asking for that same treatment: an offline version for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis.
