Exciting New Moomin Adventure Moomin: Midsummer Madness Announced

Since their debut in 1945, Tove Jansson’s beloved cast of characters – Moomintroll, his beloved parents Moominpappa and Moominmamma, Little My, Snufkin, Snork Maiden and more – have delighted audiences all around the world. This quirky family has appeared in dozens of books, TV shows, feature films, video games, and more. Now, Moomintroll and his friends star in an all-new adventure, Moomin: Midsummer Madness, revealed during the 2026 Wholesome Direct broadcast.

There’s a storm on the horizon!

Moomin: Midsummer Madness is developed by Crossbridge Game Studios and published by Shochiku Games. Crossbridge is an independent studio known for Drill Deep, Salty Dogs, and more, while Shochiku is a Japan-based developer and publisher with many titles to its name. The game begins when a great flood rushes through Moominvalley, stranding the characters in “a floating abandoned theater filled with puzzles and mysteries.” Players will need to help Moomintroll, Little My and their family and friends figure out how to get home in this all-new Moomin story.

Inspired by the iconic art style of the original Tove Jansson picture books, Moomin: Midsummer Madness features stunning, colorful art with a hand-painted aesthetic. The game moves smoothly and fluidly as Moomintroll and Little My explore the flooded world and the mysterious theater – the game even features underwater exploration segments! The Wholesome Direct trailer only hinted at the puzzle-based gameplay the title will feature, but it focuses heavily on interacting with the world and discovering interactable objects and hidden secrets to help the characters return home at last.

What happened to Moominvalley?

Moomintroll and his friends have been appearing in video games since 1997, but recent years have seen an exciting increase in Moomin-centric titles. Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley released in 2021 to positive reviews from longtime fans and newbies alike, and Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth followed in April 2026. Moomin: Midsummer Madness is also currently planned for a 2026 release, although the Wholesome Direct broadcast did not include a specific release date. The game is planned to debut for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as well as PC via Steam. For other news from this year’s Wholesome Direct, click here!
