The recent return to form for Overwatch, along with its return to its classic name, was met with significant praise from fans of the hero shooter. To celebrate that resurgence of interest which saw new record player highs on Steam, Blizzard just announced that this weekend will see all match XP be doubled on Overwatch, and they’re giving out 5 bonus Loot Boxes per person too.
The festivities start on February 20 at 11AM PT | 2PM ET | 7PM GMT | 8PM CET, from which time all players on Overwatch will automatically get double the XP points they earn for playing matches at the end of each game. This will allow for much speedier progression through this current season’s Battle Pass, which offers plentiful rewards in itself too. Additionally, logging in during this time will also reward the player with 5 Loot Boxes, each containing the refreshed loot pool that’s now stacked full of more Shop items, past season cosmetics, classic Overwatch skins and more. The event ends on February 23.

If you’re really looking to maximise your Overwatch earnings this weekend, you could also consider watching some streamers over on Twitch to earn the current Twitch Drop rewards. Linking your Blizzard account with your Twitch profile and then streaming Overwatch creators will reward you with eight standard Loot Boxes and even two Legendary Loot Boxes. If you watch for the entire 13 hours before March 9, that gives you a total of ten extra Loot Boxes to unbox in-game, which combined with the free ones to be gifted this weekend and those earnable in the Battle Pass and Events Challenges, it’s like 2016 all over again.
