ARC Raiders Has Lost Nearly 80% Of Its Peak Concurrent Steam Players

ARC Raiders is still doing well on Steam, but its broader player numbers tell a different story. The game has lost approximately 80% of its concurrent players since the beginning of the year. The game launched very strong, reaching a peak of around 482,000 concurrent players according to SteamDB. That momentum continued into the new year, with about 428,000 players on January 1, and an even higher peak later in January. However, by mid-April, daily peaks dropped to around 90,000 players.

That said, this kind of drop is not entirely unusual for live-service titles, as very few games manage to keep their launch-level numbers for long, especially several months after release. Even so, ARC Raiders continues to hold a strong position on Steam, with daily peaks of around 90,000 players keeping it among the platform’s most played games and ahead of titles like Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege, showing that it still maintains a solid and active player base despite the decline.

ARC Raiders launched last year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

There are a lot of reasons that help explain the drop, starting with content exhaustion, as many players have reached the end of the current loop and feel that updates have not added enough new weapons, equipment, or maps to keep them engaged. At the same time, cheating issues and stream sniping have pushed well-known creators like Ninja to step away or reduce their playtime. On top of that, players have also been drawn away from ARC Raiders by the release of other highly anticipated games, such as Crimson Desert and Marathon.

With these concerns in mind, Embark Studios has acknowledged the content gap and is now looking toward future updates to address it. The Riven Tides update, expected later this month, will introduce a new map along with additional content, but whether this will be enough to recover lost players remains to be seen. It’s a strong game and had huge numbers at launch. I played through the first expedition. Did the expedition. Had fun playing after, then the nerfs started coming. I get the one for the free loadout guns, but then il toro was nerfed, and making it harder to craft things and then nerfing those.

They self sabotaged. Helldivers 2 did the same.

They are both still great games, but, yeah, I don’t find fun in making a game harder for no reason. They don’t even narrate the nerfs. It just happens.

People asked for a PVE mode and Embark didn’t listen. Some people just want to enjoy the game without the sweaty PVP in every lobby. The matching making “friendly” lobbies have just been exploited. Still hoping they come around to this idea and I will probably play more if they do.
