It looks like Sony may finally be giving up on PlayStation VR2. The virtual reality headset for PS5 has started disappearing from the company’s official stores, and there are already signs that Sony may be preparing to end sales of the device. While the company has not confirmed anything yet, the removal of the headset from official stores suggests that PSVR 2 may be reaching the end of its lifespan.
According to Road to VR, Sony has quietly removed PSVR 2 from its official PlayStation Direct stores in the United States and Japan. The changes reportedly began around mid-October, when links to the headset’s store pages started showing 404 errors. Interestingly, accessories such as the controllers’ charging station and PC adapter are still listed, but the headset itself is nowhere to be found.

The situation is similar in other regions. In Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Sony now directs customers to third-party retailers instead of selling the headset directly. Meanwhile, the device is still available through official stores in the United Kingdom and some parts of Europe, although it is unclear how long this will continue. Finding a PSVR 2 at a normal price has also become increasingly difficult. Retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart have listings from third-party sellers charging around $750, much higher than the $400 price Sony introduced in March 2025.
The removal of PSVR 2 from official stores is not the first sign that Sony may be moving away from virtual reality. Back in March 2024, reports claimed that the company had paused production of the headset because of low sales and a growing amount of unsold stock. There are now rumors that production was never restarted, although Sony has not confirmed this.
Nonetheless, Sony has not officially announced that PSVR 2 is being discontinued. However, with the headset disappearing from major stores, its future doesn’t look promising. As more information about the situation unfolds, we’ll make sure to let you know here at GameObserver.
