It’s finally time, old school Capcom fans: Mega Man is back. Or rather, he will be in 2027. At last night’s The Game Awards, Capcom announced Mega Man: Dual Override, the next game in the Mega Man franchise after an awfully long time without one. It was only this past week that the studio acknowledged their need to do more with their retro series including Mega Man, but now we know they had an ace up their sleeve all along.
Gaming’s iconic Blue Bomber won’t have his next new game ready until 2027, and details yesterday were relatively sparse. We got an extremely early look at the gameplay, level design and graphics, and it’s certainly looking colorful. Capcom were quick to reaffirm that this is very early footage, and there’s still two years to go until the game will be prepared to go. However, when the game does launch, we know there’s going to be a robot boss with suction powers on his right arm. And we know this because Capcom wants us to design it!

The Mega Man: Dual Override Robot Master Design Contest is now open, with the team asking fans to try designing their own boss with the brief they provide. It needs to be a robot with a giant suction arm, but the rest is entirely up to your imagination. Check out the official website for a breakdown of how you can enter the contest and take a look at Capcom’s example design that they’re looking for.
Are you excited for the long-awaited Mega Man comeback? 2027 will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise, so we’re surely in for a lot of treats and surprises as we get closer to the date. Keep your eyes on GameObserver for the latest in gaming news so you don’t miss out.
