Highguard’s Website Is Mysteriously Down Following Massive Layoffs

The official website for Highguard has been offline for several hours at time of writing, and nobody really knows why. If you head over to the game’s site, you’re met with a message simply reading “this site is currently unavailable”, along with a contact email address for support. This comes just five days after development team at Wildlight Entertainment suffered massive layoffs, with “most of the team” losing their jobs just a few weeks after release.

The site being unavailable has most gamers bracing for the worst, as there hasn’t even been any word as to why it’s offline from Wildlight themselves. With hours passing without either a fix or an update, the future of Highguard has perhaps never seemed more bleak. Whilst this could all just be a technical error or site maintenance, it still seems somewhat symbolic of the troubling state the game has found itself is in.

Highguard is struggling to break through the hugely competitive live service space.

The launch of Highguard was one of the biggest stories in gaming this year following just how rough its rollout and release was. From being lambasted across the internet with its reveal at 2025’s The Game Awards, to the radio silence from the studio before launch, to the ultimate release which saw thousands of negative reviews and shockingly low player counts, it’s been a difficult time for the studio and its staff. Attempts have been made to respond to player feedback and improve the quality of the game, but the layoffs that followed speak volumes as to how Highguard must be performing.

We’ll be sure to report on whatever’s next for Highguard as it comes. Be sure to check back often to GameObserver for more breaking gaming news, written for humans and by humans.
