AMD CEO Says Steam Machine Is “On Track” For Launch Early This Year

Last year, Steam announced their new Steam Machine, a hybrid PC-console system in a small cube shell that marks Steam’s next venture into the gaming hardware market, and their first major push into the console gaming space. It was announced as an early 2026 release, but with issues surrounding RAM prices and sparse updates from Valve on their launch plans, many have been concerned about potential changes to the launch window in the response to these situations. However, AMD’s CEO just confirmed that the Steam Machine is still coming early this year.

Speaking in the Q4 Earnings Call to investors, Lisa Su, the CEO of tech giant AMD, confirmed the plans herself, saying explicitly that “Valve is on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year”. With it already being February, there are only a couple of months left for Valve to meet this launch window, so we suspect it won’t be long until we’re able to try the Steam Machine out ourselves.

The upcoming Steam Machine will be a console gamer-friendly way to get into PC gaming.

Su also said that AMD will be part of Xbox’s next generation console, and that they will “support a launch in 2027.” This is a significant update on the next generation of home consoles, as the majority of past discussions on when the hypothetical next generation will arrive have been based on pure speculation and rumor. Whilst it’s not guaranteeing a launch next year, AMD are stating clearly that Microsoft’s plan is to try and get the console out next year if possible.

We’ll be counting down the days until Valve announces the launch date and the pricing of their upcoming Steam Machine, and you can be sure we’ll report on it once it drops. For more gaming news written for humans and by humans, be sure to check back often to GameObserver for more!
