Paying $80 for a video game might sound expensive, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes GTA 6 will give players much more than what they are paying for. Zelnick has strongly defended the value of GTA 6 while speaking to Take-Two shareholders, saying that a price of $80 is “an incredible bargain” when compared with all the content and the experience the game will offer.
The Take-Two CEO explained that the price of a AAA game today is actually lower than it was 20 years ago when inflation is taken into account, and that game prices have simply not increased at the same rate as other costs. For Zelnick, the important part is not just the number on the price tag, but how many hours of entertainment and how much quality players receive for that money.

He said, “Our goal is to continue to over-deliver for our consumers, because how you feel about any experience is the intersection of the experience itself and what you pay for it.” That is why he believes GTA 6 offers much more value than its price might suggest.
“So to say that we expect that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be an incredible bargain as experiences go is a gross understatement, because Rockstar Games is known for over-delivering,” he added. “Our goal is not to maximize price. So in this case, I think what we’ve decided to do makes a whole lot of sense in the context of what we’re delivering. And that’s the lens through which we look going forward as well.”
While the price is getting plenty of attention, GTA 6 players now have another important date to remember. The first extended gameplay look at GTA 6 will be released worldwide on August 27, with the trailer premiering exclusively on Netflix first.
