The latest season of Overwatch is here, and one of its biggest additions is the post-match accolades system. As part of the new mechanic, during the endgame following the Play of the Game, players get to vote on who they think performed best in the match. As fans have started to notice on social media though, D.Va’s animation when she’s voted MVP appears to sneak in a reference to a real K-Pop girl group choreography.
The emote she does features a series of dance moves where first she drops down, then she dances with her hands over her eyes, peeking through her fingers, before doing a series of four different hand hearts. This just so happens to be the exact choreography with the exact same timing as Signal by TWICE. The 2017 K-Pop song is one of the group’s most well known tracks, and a perfect fit for D.Va’s character.

This isn’t the first time Overwatch has featured K-Pop, or potentially even TWICE, as Juno’s highlight intro features a similar series of hand hearts that look strikingly similar to the choreography. The K-Pop girl group were featured in past surveys, which were sent out to check the interest players had in collaborations with different groups and franchises.
The other, most significant K-Pop moment in Overwatch would be the collaboration with girl group LE SSERAFIM. This cosmetic bundle has actually just returned to the Overwatch store to start off Season 2, being one of the most in-demand cosmetic bundles within the game.

We can’t help but wonder what else Blizzard might be hiding in Overwatch, and if any morre easter eggs or references are hidden in other character MVP animations. Whether it’s just a harmless nod towards TWICE for representing D.Va’s Korean culture or a hint of a collaboration to come remains to be seen.
There’s a lot more to be discovered as we dive into the newly launched Overwatch Season 2, and we’ll be reporting on it all right here at GameObserver. Check back often for all the latest gaming news, written for humans and by humans – and in this case, also written by a Once (TWICE fan).
